Site Engineer, 6-Month Contract, Start ASAP

Your new company

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Civil Engineer to join a well‑established organisation responsible for managing a diverse and complex portfolio of civil engineering assets. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a blend of planning, design oversight, contractor management and on‑the‑ground asset inspection across a varied rural and operational environment.

You’ll play a key part in delivering the district’s civil engineering programme — ensuring safe, compliant and sustainable construction and maintenance works across bridges, reservoirs, dams, forest roads and wider infrastructure.

Your new role

As a Civil Engineer, you will:

  • Lead by example in promoting a strong health & safety culture across all engineering activities.
  • Plan and deliver a programme of routine civil engineering works, developing scopes, specifications and costings in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Procure works through established frameworks and act as Contract Manager, overseeing contract administration and performance.
  • Conduct pre‑start meetings, review RAMS, and ensure all works meet required technical, environmental and safety standards.
  • Monitor contractor performance, proactively manage H&S and environmental issues, and ensure accurate reporting of incidents and near misses.
  • Support senior engineers with higher‑risk or more complex projects.
  • Line manage and mentor Works Supervisors and Machine Operators.
  • Undertake minor design work aligned to standard details.
  • Monitor and record carbon emissions, contributing to organisational net‑zero objectives.
  • Carry out scheduled asset inspections (following appropriate training) and maintain accurate asset records.
  • Use digital mapping tools to produce contract maps and update asset data.

What you'll need to succeed

Essential Experience & Skills
  • Experience in a civil engineering role involving works planning, design or contract supervision.
  • 3 A‑levels or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering
  • Strong understanding of safe construction delivery, including CDM regulations and relevant H&S legislation.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external partners.
  • Competent user of MS Office applications.

Desirable Experience
  • Civil engineering experience within a forestry, rural or environmentally sensitive setting.
  • CITB Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme or IOSH Managing Safely
  • Familiarity with GIS or other mapping systems.
  • Experience using CAD software such as AutoCAD or Civils 3D.
  • Knowledge of quarrying/extractive environments and associated regulations.

What you'll get in return

This contract offers the opportunity to play a key role in delivering a varied civil engineering programme across a unique and diverse asset base. In return, you will benefit from:

  • A competitive day rate aligned to your experience
  • The chance to work on a broad mix of civil engineering projects, from structures and reservoirs to rural infrastructure
  • Exposure to environmentally sensitive engineering and sustainable construction practices
  • A supportive and collaborative working environment with experienced engineering and operational teams
