School caretaker job based in a primary school in Sefton. Hourly pay starting January 2026.

Hays Education are working with a Primary School based in Sefton to recruit a caretaker to start in January 2026. This job is full time and will run until the end of the academic year.
Your new role
Working alongside the site manager, this school caretaker job is full time. Hours are split during term time – 7.30–10.30 and then 3–6. Hours for school holidays will be negotiated based on the holiday club and work schedule.
The main responsibilities for this school caretaker job include:
Opening and closing the site – front gates and internal/ external doors
Portage and ensuring rooms are set up for daily activities, assemblies etc. as required
Litter picking and general maintenance of the school grounds
Support with cleaning to ensure the school is ready for children to arrive
Complete safety checks and scheduled work as directed by the site manager
Act as point of contact for external contractors on larger jobs
What you'll need to succeed
To be successfully appointed to this school caretaker job, previous experience as a keyholder in a school or similar setting is desirable, as is previous trade-person experience. You will have strong communication skills, the ability to prioritise workload, manage contractors and supervise cleaning staff. An awareness of health and safety, security and hygiene issues is also a must.
You will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check before starting this job.
