Careers & Work-Based Learning Consultant
Job Purpose
Join our dynamic Careers & Employability team to empower students, graduates, and staff in making confident, informed career decisions. You’ll deliver tailored guidance and innovative learning experiences—from one-to-one coaching to seminars and employer events—helping individuals thrive in a competitive global job market.
As a careers and work-based learning consultant, you’ll collaborate closely with a designated Faculty to design and deliver bespoke career education. You’ll also work across Student Services to support employability initiatives, partnering with academic and professional staff to respond to the evolving employment landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide personalised Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) via appointments, drop-ins, e-guidance, and video calls.
- Deliver in-depth career coaching to boost self-awareness and identify development gaps.
- Offer impartial advice to students considering course changes or withdrawal.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align employability activities with strategic goals.
- Champion career aspirations through targeted support for widening participation, research students, and international mobility.
- Promote extra-curricular opportunities like volunteering and work-based learning.
- Design and deliver engaging career education activities (curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular), both in-person and online.
- Act as a Faculty consultant, leading on career programme design and delivery across all study levels.
- Build strong relationships with academics and attend relevant committees to represent service needs.
- Create toolkits and resources for academic staff, offering training where needed.
- Produce reports and recommendations based on employability research and data analysis.
- Develop specialist services for key student groups (e.g., WP, PGRs, international students).
- Generate labour market insights to inform tailored support across departments.
- Support team initiatives and build recruiter relationships through networking.
- Maintain and enhance your own professional development.
- Uphold service excellence and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Represent the Careers & Employability Service in university-wide policy discussions.
- Carry out additional duties as required by the Head of Employability and Skills.
The role is a FTC for a years Maternity cover
Part time - 3 days a week (24 hours) days flexible.Based on either Talbot or Lansdowne Campus (flexible)
