Project Overview
This role is an integral part of a fast-paced Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) digital transformation project underpinning the delivery of world-leading defence products. The enabling software includes Siemens NX, Teamcenter, and Capital, with the programme spanning the full breadth of the product lifecycle. The initial focus is on Design and Manufacturing Engineering, with expansion into other domains over time.
Job Summary
As part of a major business transformation programme implementing Siemens NX and Teamcenter, the NX Competency Lead will play a pivotal role in developing a skilled, engaged, and high-performing community of NX users. Starting with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality, the role will later expand into other engineering areas.
The Competency Lead will be responsible for creating, managing, and evolving the NX competency framework, collaborating with training teams to ensure effective learning pathways, and driving user engagement strategies to unlock the full value of NX. Working closely with NX Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and Capability Owners, the role will translate expert knowledge into accessible adoption experiences, embed best practices, and empower key users to become future leaders in digital design and manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
Competency Development & Learning
- Develop and own the NX competency framework across Design, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality.
- Translate SME-level knowledge into structured adoption content (guides, tutorials, models).
- Collaborate with training teams to deliver e-learning modules and hands-on workshops.
- Build and maintain a library of materials aligned with business standards and NX/Teamcenter processes.
- Ensure competency materials reflect the latest system configurations and methods.
Community Building & User Engagement
- Grow and nurture an active community of NX users, including Key Users, Champions, and advanced practitioners.
- Lead user engagement strategies through communities of practice, drop-in clinics, newsletters, and events.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to Key Users to develop them into future digital design and manufacturing experts.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing.
Governance, Standards & Compliance
- Ensure learning approaches and adoption activities align with business standards and governance.
- Collaborate with SMEs, Process Owners, and Configuration Leads to maintain consistency in tool usage.
- Promote and enforce standardised approaches to modelling, drafting, PMI, variant management, and manufacturing methods in NX.
Adoption, Performance & Reporting
- Monitor and report on adoption metrics, competency progress, and user engagement.
- Identify skill gaps, training needs, and emerging challenges across user groups.
- Manage, triage, and track user queries, escalating to SMEs where required.
Continuous Improvement
- Stay current with Siemens NX capabilities, industry best practices, and digital engineering trends.
- Contribute to the long-term digital engineering strategy within the transformation programme.
Qualifications & Experience
- Strong proficiency in Siemens NX, ideally across modelling, assemblies, drafting, PMI, or manufacturing modules.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience working in engineering or manufacturing environments.
- Ability to translate complex topics into clear, engaging learning content.
- Proactive, organised, and able to manage multiple activities simultaneously.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Teamcenter or other PLM systems.
- Experience leading communities of practice, user networks, or change adoption initiatives.
- Background in Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Quality Engineering.
- Knowledge of Model-Based Engineering or Model-Based Definition principles.
- Familiarity with digital transformation programmes or engineering system rollouts.
Working Conditions
- Remote working on client-provided equipment.
- Onsite office days typically 2 per fortnight in Barrow-in-Furness.
- Onsite workshops conducted at client sites and occasionally at IBM or vendor locations.
- Standard working hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.
