Your new company
A North Kent-based building contractor focussed on the public sector refurbishment sector seek an experienced materials buyer to join the stable team. Long-established with a good local reputation in their sector, they are focussed on public sector/framework projects, typically in the refurbishment, firestopping, re-cladding sectors. Due to an internal move they are looking for a materials' buyer to be office-based and oversee all procurement/Buying for the Site teams, adding best value and process improvements where possible. This is a permanent role, immediately available.Your new role
As company buyer you will sit within a commercial team of
5 Working closely with the quantity surveyor, estimator, contracts manager and Site teams, the main function will be to
Ensure the company obtains quality materials and equipment hire for competitive prices in a timely fashion. You will analyse the current processes and suppliers and ensure materials are scheduled with the right lead in times with the most competitive suppliers with the relevant approvals. You will be the sole buyer and have autonomy to shape the role to suit. The role will also oversee the procurement and management of additional labour and trades when needed.
What you'll need to succeed
You will have previous experience as a buyer with a main contractor. You will ideally have a good understanding of refurbishment works – both residential and commercial-and be comfortable liaising with builders, merchants and suppliers. You will be I.T literate and be comfortable managing your own workload and working independently (whilst sitting amongst the wider team).
