Full-time temporary assignment with Birmingham City Council as a Business Support Coordinator
Your new company
On behalf of Birmingham City Council, we are recruiting a Business Support Coordinator to join the Private Rented Sector team. Birmingham City Council is one of the largest local authorities in Europe and plays a vital role in regulating, supporting and improving housing standards across the city. The Private Rented Sector team works closely with internal and external partners to ensure strong governance, compliance, service improvement and performance management in line with council priorities.
Your new role
This is a three‑month ongoing opportunity working 36.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, based in the Aston area of Birmingham. As a Business Support Coordinator, you will provide coordinated support across governance and compliance, complaints and service improvement, and business planning and performance. The role involves coordinating and monitoring Freedom of Information requests, Subject Access Requests and political governance processes, ensuring accurate record keeping, compliance with statutory timescales and effective liaison with officers across the council. You will support the investigation and coordination of complaints, Ombudsman enquiries and customer feedback, helping to analyse evidence and identify opportunities for service improvement. In addition, you will play a key role in supporting the council‑wide business planning and performance framework by coordinating, collating and analysing performance data, preparing reports and ensuring outcomes and measures are clear, robust and aligned to agreed objectives.
What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this role, you will have strong experience in business support, administration or coordination within a public sector or similarly complex organisation. You will be confident working with governance processes, FOI and data protection requirements, complaints handling and performance reporting, with excellent attention to detail and organisational skills. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills are essential, as you will work closely with frontline managers and corporate teams including policy, finance and performance colleagues. You will be analytical, proactive and comfortable managing multiple priorities to tight deadlines, with the ability to produce accurate reports and provide clear advice and support.
What you'll get in return
In return, you will receive an hourly rate of £18.61 PAYE plus holiday allowance, equivalent to £20.86 per hour in total. You will gain valuable experience working within a high‑profile Birmingham City Council service, contributing to governance, service improvement and performance delivery across the Private Rented Sector. This role offers stable weekday hours, a Birmingham‑based office location and the opportunity to extend your contract while making a meaningful impact within a public sector environment.
