Business Development Manager, Commercial Merchandise, Banbury, £45k to £55k

Your new company

We are partnering with a long‑established merchandise and apparel solutions provider to recruit this role on their behalf. The business has nearly 25 years’ experience creating high‑quality merchandise collections for clients across multiple sectors. They deliver an end‑to‑end service—from design, production and quality control through to sales & marketing support and worldwide distribution—and, through specialist production expertise and long‑standing manufacturer partnerships, they consistently achieve uncompromising quality and on‑time delivery.

Your new role

As Business Development Manager, you will identify and secure new commercial opportunities and drive growth across new sectors to agreed strategic targets. You will champion exceptional customer service and ensure programmes are delivered to meet stakeholder requirements.

Core responsibilities include:
  • Growing and developing new business in target sectors while supporting existing customers to expand the client base
  • Leading negotiations with prospective clients on financial objectives and business requirements, working closely with the senior management team
  • Contributing to the development of the company’s overall commercial strategy
  • Collaborating with related business divisions to unlock joint opportunities
  • Initiating and managing robust, accurate proposals in response to client enquiries
  • Acting as the first point of contact for existing and potential clients, maintaining regular reporting and communication
  • Ensuring business plans align with cash‑flow requirements
  • Assisting with budgeting and forecasting of sales and margins
  • Providing market insight and feedback to the executive leadership team
  • Supporting presence at shows and exhibitions in line with the marketing strategy
  • Providing dynamic, hands‑on leadership as part of the management team

What you'll need to succeed

You’ll bring proven experience as a Business Development Manager (or similar) with a track record of selling into high‑value accounts and negotiating annual contracts/programmes. You must have prior experience and knowledge of the clothing/merchandise industry. You are a self‑starter, highly results‑focused, commercially astute, and comfortable travelling internationally when required. Strong negotiation, stakeholder management, proposal development, and financial literacy (budgeting/forecasting) are essential.

What you'll get in return

You’ll join a specialist, globally connected merchandise organisation where your impact will be visible—shaping sector growth, influencing commercial strategy, and working with expert production partners. Expect the autonomy to build new markets, close complex deals, collaborate cross‑functionally, and engage directly with senior leadership. You’ll also gain exposure to international exhibitions and client engagements, with the support of a seasoned management team committed to delivering best‑in‑class programmes.
