Business Architect (Operational Infrastructure) – Paying up to £650 Per Day, Inside IR35, Based in Bristol, Hybrid Working (Minimum of 3 days on site per week), To Start ASAP, 6 Month Contract

Your new company

You will be joining a major, nationally significant infrastructure organisation delivering one of the UK’s most complex and high-stakes programmes. Operating in a heavily regulated, safety-critical environment, the organisation is investing heavily in digital and operational transformation to support large-scale construction and future operations. Despite a strong pipeline of change initiatives, they have faced real challenges securing the right calibre of Business Architecture expertise, specifically individuals who can operate credibly at both strategic and delivery levels in a complex, fast-moving environment. This role has been created to address that gap.

Your new role

This is not a passive architecture role, it is a hands-on, front-end shaping and delivery position where you will be expected to lead from ambiguity and drive clarity. You will take ownership of early-stage project definition, working directly with stakeholders to turn loosely defined problems into structured, fundable initiatives.

You will:

  • Diagnose and frame complex business problems where scope is not yet clear

  • Drive stakeholder alignment across multiple functions with competing priorities

  • Interrogate and challenge requirements, not just document them

  • Build robust investment cases, including translating unclear or intangible benefits into tangible value

  • Shape solution options with architects and suppliers, particularly across IT infrastructure landscapes

Crucially, you will stay with the initiative beyond design acting as the custodian of the original intent, ensuring delivery teams remain aligned to the agreed outcomes, and stepping in where needed to course-correct. This role exists because the organisation needs someone who can bridge the gap between strategy, architecture, and delivery, rather than operate in a silo.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Proven experience in Business Architecture, Lead Business Analysis, or Operating Model Design within large, complex transformation programmes

  • Demonstrable track record of shaping initiatives from concept through to funded delivery

  • Strong experience with business case development, investment justification, and benefits modelling

  • Expertise in process design, analysis and modelling (e.g. BPMN, Lean, etc.)

  • Experience working across IT / digital / infrastructure change initiatives

  • Ability to manage and assure third-party delivery partners

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, including influencing at leadership level

  • Experience in regulated, asset-intensive, or safety-critical environments is highly desirable
