Building Control Officer required by Mid & East Antrim Borough Council

Your new company

The services of Hays have been retained by our client, Mid & East Antrim Borough Council, to recruit a Building Control Officer on a temporary contract basis for a period of 6 months with the possibility of further extension.

Your new role

You will work as part of the Building Control Team to fulfil the Council’s statutory duties regarding the administration and enforcement of Building Regulations and allied legislation and to provide an efficient, effective, economic and equitable service. This will include:

Validating and assessing applications submitted under the Building Regulations for compliance with the requirements of applicable regulations.
Inspecting building work as required by the Building Regulations.
Applying the procedural and technical requirements of the Building Regulations (NI), including the decision to reject or approve plans, issue or refuse regularisation certificates, administer Building Notice submissions and administer the Plans of No Effect (PONE) procedure.
Issuing Completion Certificates as and when appropriate.
Reporting on contraventions and all unauthorised building work encountered or alerted to within the Borough.

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered for this position, you must possess:

A degree or equivalent in an appropriate building related discipline, such as architecture, building, or civil/structural engineering, or;
Full Corporate Membership of an appropriate building related professional institution or association such as RIBA, CABE, RICS (Building Surveying/ Control), MICE, MIStructE, CIOB or CIAT, and;

Be able to demonstrate that you have at least two years’ experience of:
Working in the building/construction industry in either the public or private sector.
Interpreting working drawings and specifications.
Applying knowledge and understanding of current Building Regulations to determine the compliance of proposals and successfully enforcing and remedying breaches.
Forming effective and professional relationships with stakeholders, including contractors, consultants and members of the public.
If you do not possess a relevant degree / professional qualification, you will need to have four years’ experience in the areas outlined above.

Additionally, you should have:
Knowledge and understanding of the Building Regulations and allied legislation and statutory obligations.
Competence in the use of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
A full current driving licence valid in the UK and access to a vehicle.
