Teaching Assistant Jobs Available at Behavioural SEN Schools in Stockport

We are seeking dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistants to work on a supply basis within Behavioural Specialist Schools supporting primary and secondary-aged pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) and/or behavioural needs in and around the Stockport area. These schools provide a nurturing and structured environment for children who require additional support to engage with learning and develop positive behaviours. Whether you are an experienced SEMH TA, or you come from a residential care/support work background, we would love to hear from you!

Location: Stockport, Greater Manchester
Contract: Flexible Supply / Temporary
Rate: Up to £125/day

Key Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Support pupils with SEMH needs in classroom and 1:1 settings.
  • Assist teachers in delivering tailored learning plans and behaviour strategies.
  • Promote emotional regulation and positive behaviour through consistent routines and interventions.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and progress.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals.
  • Ensure safeguarding and confidentiality are maintained at all times.

Key Skills/Experience:
  • Experience working with children with SEMH or behavioural needs (school or alternative provision setting is ideal)
  • Strong communication and de-escalation skills
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to challenging situations
  • A positive, understanding, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting vulnerable learners
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
