Hays Education is working in partnership with a range of primary, secondary, and specialist SEN schools across London. Due to a growing need for behavioural support within the classroom, we are recruiting experienced Behaviour Specialist Teaching Assistants to support pupils with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.

Your new role

As a Behaviour Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students who require additional behavioural and emotional support to access learning effectively. You will work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to implement strategies that promote positive behaviour and engagement.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Providing one-to-one and small group behavioural support
  • Managing challenging behaviour using de-escalation techniques
  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs, ASD, ADHD, or trauma-related behaviours
  • Implementing behaviour plans and tailored interventions
  • Encouraging positive social interactions and emotional regulation
  • Assisting the class teacher in maintaining a calm and productive learning environment


What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience working with children or young people with behavioural challenges (school, youth work, care, or similar setting)
  • Strong behaviour management skills and resilience
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
  • Knowledge of behaviour strategies such as Team Teach, MAPA, or similar (desirable)
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners to succeed
