AWS Platform/DevOps Engineer - 6 months - £525 per day - Outside IR35

Your new organisation

Hays' client is a public sector organisation in Edinburgh who is looking to recruit an AWS Platform/DevOps Engineer for an initial 6-month contract on a rate of £525pd (outside IR35). This role will be predominantly remote with occasional on-site presence likely required.

Your new role


  • Work alongside Product Teams to ensure good practices for developing, testing, deploying and supporting products on AWS.

  • Design, build and support services for software delivery in the organisation with a focus on the AWS Platform.

  • Develop, build and support people to use libraries (usually CDK constructs) and vended services that wrap and present platform features.

  • Improve security of Lambda functions

  • Deprecation of on-prem products in favour of cloud based alternatives (Imperva WAF, RabbitMQ, Postgres, ElasticSearch, InfluxDB, Jenkins)

  • Ensure the platform meets the organisation's governance and security requirements.

  • Support the organisation's core platforms (container platform, monitoring, telemetry).

  • Creating and maintaining an appropriate level of documentation, including technical options assessments that can be effectively used to communicate to the team and wider stakeholders the technical vision of the product.

  • Championing ideas/changes/designs that you and/or the team believe are beneficial, influencing peers and key stakeholders as appropriate.

What you need to succeed

You will need the following skills for this role:


  • Containerisation technologies

  • CI/CD methodology and tooling for containerisation and AWS

  • Infrastructure as Code principles

  • Networking fundamentals

  • Designing and building platforms in AWS

  • Observability and Telemetry

  • Security tooling and practices


The following skills are desirable for this role:

  • Python, Bash, Groovy

  • Jenkins and Ansible

  • OpenShift, Kubernetes, ECS, Fargate

  • AWSLinux, RHeL, Ubuntu

  • Git, Artifactory, ElasticSearch, OpenSearch, Jenkins, Kibana, Grafana
