Attendance Manager – Start ASAP – Preston

Are you the person who can turn attendance challenges into success stories?

Do you thrive on building trust with families and motivating pupils to re‑engage?

Ready to lead a whole‑school attendance strategy with confidence and autonomy? If so, then this role may be for you.

A dynamic Preston secondary setting is seeking a motivated, resilient and proactive Attendance Manager to take ownership of whole‑school attendance. You’ll be the driving force behind early intervention, targeted support, and strategic oversight, ensuring every pupil is supported to attend, engage and succeed. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants autonomy, challenge, and the chance to shape a whole‑school culture.

The school is open to appointing in to this role immediately on a long-term interim basis, but will also consider strong candidates available from September. For the right person, the role could become permanent.

Your new role

  • Leading whole‑school attendance strategy; analysing data, identifying trends, and driving improvement.

  • Delivering targeted intervention for pupils with persistent or severe absence.

  • Building strong relationships with families, including supportive but authoritative conversations and home visits.

  • Coordinating reintegration plans following suspension or extended absence.

  • Working with external agencies to secure joined‑up support.

  • Supervising attendance support staff and ensuring consistent practice.

  • Producing clear, accurate reports for senior leaders and governors.

This is a role where your influence will be felt daily, through improved attendance, stronger family engagement, and better outcomes for pupils who need support the most.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience working with young people in a secondary or similar setting.

  • Attendance focused intervention experience and confidence managing complex cases.

  • Knowledge of statutory attendance guidance and local authority processes.

  • Strong analytical skills to spot patterns and priorities.

  • Excellent communication! Calm, clear and professional!

  • Resilience and emotional intelligence when dealing with challenging situations.

  • Enhanced DBS clearance.
