2 x proteomic mass spec scientists for a global pharma company, 12 month+ contracts

Your new company

You'll be joining a global biopharmaceutical organisation advancing novel therapeutics from research into the clinic. You’ll work in a highly collaborative analytical sciences team applying advanced mass spectrometry to support molecular characterisation and drug development.

Your new role

As a Scientist in mass spectrometry, you will support protein characterisation projects, contributing to the analysis of therapeutic proteins and the investigation of their structure, function, and degradation.
There are 2 hires for this team, each of which is initially a 12 month contract that has the potential to extend and can be at any level from Associate Scientist to Scientist or Senior Scientist dependent on experience.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Performing mass spectrometry‑based analysis of protein therapeutics
  • Supporting characterisation studies of post‑translational modifications, impurities, and degradation pathways
  • Applying complementary analytical techniques including HPLC and electrophoresis where required
  • Troubleshooting analytical methods and instrumentation to ensure data quality
  • Maintaining accurate records and contributing to technical reports, protocols, and regulatory documentation
  • Communicating analytical results and technical issues to project teams and stakeholders
  • Supporting the development and implementation of new analytical methods
  • Ensuring proper maintenance and availability of laboratory equipment and consumables, including LC-MS systems

What you'll need to succeed

A strong candidate will bring hands‑on experience in mass spectrometry and protein analysis as well as:
  • A BSc/MSc or PhD in biochemistry, biology, or a similar subject (or equivalent experience) with 1–3 years of laboratory experience focused around the analysis of large molecules, eg proteins, peptides, antibodies, etc
  • Proven experience using mass spectrometry for protein or biomolecule analysis, eg using Orbitrap, QQQ, QToF or similar systems
  • Strong understanding of protein chemistry and analytical techniques
  • Experience with HPLC or electrophoresis is advantageous
  • Ability to troubleshoot scientific and technical challenges
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organised, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Enthusiasm for learning new technologies in a fast‑paced research setting

Experience from either industry (biotech, pharma, CRO) or academia is acceptable.
Candidates who have small molecule mass spec experience are also encouraged to apply, but proteomic mass spec experience is highly desirable.

ALL candidates must already hold the right to work in the UK without sponsorship until at least July 2027 (preferably July 2028 or beyond). No sponsorship is available for this role.

What you'll get in return

You'll be working with a highly experienced, friendly team on a variety of projects, where you'll have opportunities to further develop your technical skills and make an impact on the company's drug pipeline.
