Job Advert: Assistant Team Manager – Occupational Therapy for Birmingham City wide team

Birmingham City Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Team Manager (Occupational Therapy) to join our Adult Social Care service. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key leadership role in supporting the delivery of high-quality, person-centred occupational therapy services across one of the largest local authorities in Europe.
Your new role
You will support the Team Manager in leading a team of Occupational Therapists, ensuring the delivery of strengths-based assessments, promoting independence, and improving outcomes for Birmingham residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Team Manager in the day-to-day operational management of the Occupational Therapy team.
- Provide professional supervision, mentoring, and support to Occupational Therapists and support staff
- Ensure assessments, care planning, and interventions meet statutory requirements (Care Act 2014) and professional standards
- Promote strengths-based practice and a focus on enablement and independence
- Oversee complex casework and provide specialist clinical advice where required
- Monitor team performance, quality assurance, and service delivery targets
- Work collaboratively with internal teams, health partners, and external agencies
- Support service development, innovation, and continuous improvement

Essential Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy
- Registration with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Significant post-qualification experience in adult social care
- Experience of supervising or mentoring staff
- Strong understanding of Care Act legislation, safeguarding, and MCA
- Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills
Desirable
- Previous experience in a senior or supervisory role
- Knowledge of local authority systems and processes
- Experience in service improvement or transformation
