Assistant Manager role in a growing accountancy practice – client management, accounts & tax focus.

We are working with a well‑established and progressive accountancy practice that is looking to appoint an Assistant Manager to support their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a part‑qualified, newly qualified or QBE accountant who is keen to take the next step in their career, gain greater responsibility and work closely with Managers and Partners.

The Role
As Assistant Manager, you will play a key role in the day‑to‑day management of client work and junior staff, acting as a trusted support to Managers while continuing to maintain hands‑on technical involvement.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Standing in for Managers when required, including attending meetings and supporting trainees
  • Managing your own workload alongside overseeing and delegating work to junior staff
  • Monitoring client accounts progress, liaising with clients directly and updating Managers accordingly
  • Assisting Managers to help reduce their workloads and improve workflow efficiencies
  • Preparing accounts up to review level
  • Supporting audit work under the supervision of the Audit Manager
  • Preparing personal and corporation tax returns
  • Overseeing, where required, VAT returns, bookkeeping, payroll and Companies House matters
  • Carrying out general administrative duties, including filing and organisation of client work

What We’re Looking For
You’ll be someone who is organised, detail‑focused and confident dealing directly with clients, with the ambition to develop further within practice.
You will ideally bring:
  • Part‑qualified, newly qualified or qualified by experience status
  • Strong experience within an accountancy practice environment
  • The ability to work to strict deadlines while maintaining high standards
  • Excellent workload management and prioritisation skills
  • Clear, professional and confident communication skills
  • A keen eye for detail and strong numeracy skills
  • A collaborative and reliable approach, with a flexible mindset

Technical Experience
Strong IT capability is essential, including experience with:
  • Microsoft Office
  • CCH products
  • Sage Accounts and Sage Payroll
  • Xero
  • QuickBooks

You’ll also be confident promoting the practice to potential new clients at marketing or networking events when required.
