Assistant Accountant job in Middlesbrough, Cleveland

As part of their continued growth, they are seeking an enthusiastic and detail‑oriented Assistant Management Accountant to join the Finance team. This role is ideal for someone looking to deepen their exposure to management accounting within a fast‑paced manufacturing environment, while contributing meaningful insights to support strategic decision‑making and business performance.

Your new role

The Assistant Management Accountant will support the Finance team across a variety of activities, including weekly and month‑end reporting, pricing and costing processes, sales forecasting, and the enhancement of financial dashboards. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills, good Excel capability, and a willingness to learn and develop their understanding of accounting within a manufacturing context.


Weekly & KPI Reporting
  • Assist in preparing weekly sales and KPI reports, ensuring accuracy, insight, and alignment with business priorities.
Month-End Support
  • Support Operational and Commercial Finance Business Partners with month-end reporting, reconciliations, and analysis.
Sales Forecast Consolidation
  • Assist in consolidating monthly sales forecasts, including variance analysis against previous forecasts, budgets, and latest estimates.
IFS Data Loads
  • Prepare costing, pricing, and budgetary data loads for upload into the IFS ERP system.
Tender Support
  • Contribute to tender submissions by analysing changes from prior submissions, identifying key drivers, and highlighting risks and opportunities.
Ad-Hoc Reporting
  • Prepare and present ad-hoc financial analysis and reports for Finance Business Partners, the CFO, and the Senior Leadership Team to support decision-making.

What you'll need to succeed

Skills & Experience
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles
  • Strong Excel skills (including XLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables)
  • Experience in a similar finance role, ideally within manufacturing or FMCG
  • Knowledge of ERP systems (IFS advantageous)
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to work independently and collaborate across functions
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical capability
Qualifications
  • AAT qualified or currently studying towards CIMA/ACCA/ACA
  • Prior experience in a finance role—manufacturing or FMCG preferred, but not essential for the right candidate
