Your new role

Assistant Design Engineer required to support the delivery of highway maintenance and improvement projects. This role involves assisting with design work, asset management, and technical reporting while ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop highway maintenance schemes, from defect identification to treatment selection and construction documentation.
• Assist in designing highway improvement, traffic engineering, and active travel schemes.
• Help produce forward programmes of highway maintenance works.
• Support the management and execution of highway condition inspections and surveys.
• Update and utilise asset management systems.
• Prepare technical reports and outputs to achieve project objectives.
• Undertake site visits, surveys, and investigations.
• Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and environmental standards.
• Provide technical training and supervision for technicians.
• Collaborate with clients to understand and deliver project objectives.

What you'll need to succeed

• Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent, or HNC/HND with relevant post-qualification experience.

• Experience in highway maintenance techniques and pavement treatment solutions.

• Asset management and construction experience within the highway sector

• Commercial awareness in project delivery.

• Knowledge of highway design standards

• Strong understanding of Health & Safety and environmental requirements in design and construction.

• Proficient in design software and Microsoft Office packages.

• Competent user of AutoCAD and Civils 3D
