Permanent Assistant Accountant job - in Worcester paying up to £35,000 per annum

Hays are working with a growing organisation who are looking for an experienced and proactive Assistant Accountant to support their Finance team in Worcester. Your work will directly support decision-making at the management level and contribute to the financial health of the organisation.


Your new role


  • Assisting the Financial Controller and budget holders to prepare annual budgets and quarterly re-forecasts of cost, recovery and cashflow, providing analysis of data.

  • Assisting with preparation of monthly management accounts.

  • Posting monthly recharges and dealing with business queries.

  • Communication with non-financial staff, in particular ensure that they understand and comply, as appropriate, with group systems, procedures and policies.

  • Liaise on a monthly basis with budget holders to discuss variances of actual cost to budget/forecasts costs.

  • Reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.

  • Monthly tasks including timesheet management, staff allocations, creating job memos, raising capex forms, raising purchase orders and invoice resolution.

  • Ad hoc projects e.g. evaluation and incorporation into forecasts of impact of new initiatives, projects and contracts etc.

  • Assist in developing and implementing new processes.


What you'll need to succeed


  • Sound analytical skills.

  • Ability to work to deadlines and take responsibility

  • Ability to communicate and influence at all levels

  • Organised

  • Good Attention to detail.

  • Team Player – as a small team it will be necessary to cover colleagues’ workload.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including use and set-up of Pivot tables.

  • Experience of an accounting software package.

  • Prior involvement in the preparation of management accounts.

  • Ability to work to monthly deadlines.

  • Strong written and verbal communication.
