The Assistant Accountant will support the Finance Manager in the preparation of accurate financial information, month-end reporting, reconciliations, and day-to-day accounting activities. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of the finance function and maintaining strong financial controls. Duties will include:
- Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts.
- Prepare and post journals including accruals, prepayments, and depreciation.
- Maintain fixed asset registers and related accounting records.
- Support the month-end and year-end close processes.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Assist with processing supplier invoices and payments.
- Support credit control activities and monitor outstanding customer balances.
- Reconcile supplier and customer accounts.
- Ensure all transactions are accurately recorded within the finance system.
- Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
- Reconcile intercompany transactions where applicable.
- Maintain accurate general ledger records.
What you'll need to succeed
- Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant, Accounts Assistant, Finance Officer, or similar role.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and double-entry bookkeeping.
- Experience with accounting software and ERP systems.
- Good Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both finance and non-finance colleagues.
- AAT qualified or studying towards ACCA, CIMA, or ACA.
