A growing and successful business based in Radstock, that prides itself on delivering exceptional service, fostering innovation, and creating a supportive working environment for their employees are seeking an ambitious and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join their finance team on a temporary to permanent basis.


Your new role

The Assistant Accountant will support the Finance Manager in the preparation of accurate financial information, month-end reporting, reconciliations, and day-to-day accounting activities. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of the finance function and maintaining strong financial controls. Duties will include:

  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts.
  • Prepare and post journals including accruals, prepayments, and depreciation.
  • Maintain fixed asset registers and related accounting records.
  • Support the month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies.
  • Assist with processing supplier invoices and payments.
  • Support credit control activities and monitor outstanding customer balances.
  • Reconcile supplier and customer accounts.
  • Ensure all transactions are accurately recorded within the finance system.
  • Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Reconcile intercompany transactions where applicable.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger records.



What you'll need to succeed

  • Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant, Accounts Assistant, Finance Officer, or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and double-entry bookkeeping.
  • Experience with accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Good Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both finance and non-finance colleagues.
  • AAT qualified or studying towards ACCA, CIMA, or ACA.
