Your new role
This is a newly created permanent role, reporting to the Finance Manager, working as one of two in the finance team. Your responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):
- End-to-end Accounts Payable and Receivable: Oversee the full lifecycle of supplier and customer transactions, ensuring invoices are processed accurately, payments are made on time, and cash inflows are maximised to support strong working capital management.
- Expenses management: Implement and monitor expense policies, streamline approval workflows, and champion cost efficiency while empowering teams to spend responsibly.
- Bank reconciliation: Take ownership of reconciling multiple bank accounts, swiftly identifying discrepancies, and ensuring financial records reflect real-time accuracy.
- Balance sheet reconciliation: Maintain the integrity of the company’s financial position by reconciling key accounts, spotting anomalies, and proactively resolving issues before they escalate.
- Maintaining fixed asset register: Track and manage the organisation’s investments in property, plant, and equipment, ensuring assets are recorded, valued, and reported with precision.
- Posting depreciation journals: Accurately calculate and post monthly depreciation entries, aligning asset values with accounting standards and supporting transparent reporting.
- Prepayments and accruals: Manage the timing of income and expenses by preparing prepayments and accruals, ensuring financial statements reflect true economic activity.
- Variance analysis: Deliver insightful analysis of budget vs. actual performance, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities to guide strategic decision-making.
- Preparation of month-end pack: Compile and present comprehensive financial packs, blending data with narrative to provide leadership teams with clear visibility and actionable insights.
- Reconciliation of project costs: Monitor project budgets, reconcile actual costs, and spotlight over or under spends, enabling proactive resource allocation and financial control.
What you'll need to succeed
- 2+ years’ experience in AP/AR, ideally with some exposure to month end: Proven track record of managing accounts payable and receivable processes end-to-end, with the ability to handle invoice processing, payment runs, and collections. Exposure to month-end close adds value, demonstrating familiarity with reconciliations, journal postings, and supporting accurate financial reporting.
- Hardworking with a desire to learn: A proactive mindset with a strong work ethic, eager to take ownership of tasks and continuously develop new skills. Shows resilience under pressure and thrives in a fast-paced environment where adaptability and curiosity are key.
- Xero system (essential): Hands-on experience using Xero for day-to-day accounting operations, including invoice management, reconciliations, and reporting. Ability to leverage Xero’s features to streamline processes and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
- Spendesk (highly desirable): Familiarity with Spendesk’s expense management platform, enabling efficient tracking of company spending, approvals, and reporting. Experience here demonstrates readiness to optimise workflows and improve visibility over corporate expenses.
- Multi-currency experience (highly desirable): Competence in handling transactions across different currencies, including reconciliations, FX adjustments, and reporting. This skill ensures accuracy in global operations and supports businesses with international reach.
- Actively studying CIMA or ACCA (or a strong desire to commence your studies)
What you'll get in return
- Study Support: Unlock opportunities for professional growth with financial and practical support for further education or qualifications. Whether it’s accounting certifications, leadership training, or specialist courses, the company invests in your development to help you reach your career goals.
- Hybrid working (3 days in office): Enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid model that balances collaboration and autonomy. With three days in the office, you’ll benefit from face-to-face teamwork and social connection, while remote days give you space for focused, independent work.
- Birthday off: Celebrate your special day with a paid day off, giving you the freedom to relax, spend time with loved ones, or simply enjoy a well-deserved break without dipping into your annual leave.
- Annual company trip abroad: Join the team for an unforgettable overseas adventure each year. These trips combine team-building, cultural exploration, and relaxation, creating lasting memories while strengthening bonds across the company.
- Cycle to Work Scheme: Take advantage of a government-backed initiative that makes cycling more affordable and accessible. Employees can purchase bikes and accessories tax-free, promoting healthier commutes, reducing carbon footprints, and encouraging an active lifestyle.
- Genuine opportunity for career progression: Be part of a company that actively invests in your future, with clear pathways for advancement, mentorship from senior leaders, and the chance to step into a bigger role as the business continues its growth trajectory, and you demonstrate the capability to undertake increased responsibilities.
