Hays are working with a organisation in the Exeter area who are seeking a Assistant Accountant to join their growing finance team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside an experienced Financial and Management Accountant and our CFO in a dynamic, forward-thinking environment.

Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Financial and Management Accountant, you will be responsible for:
  • Daily posting of payments/receipts and reconciliation of cash/bank accounts
  • Producing, recording, and uploading sales invoices
  • Reconciling debtor accounts and managing the sales ledger, including debt chasing via phone/email
  • Inputting purchase invoices and ensuring VAT compliance
  • Assisting with payment runs and supplier payments
  • Supporting month-end processes, including journals and reconciliations for management accounts
  • Processing new jobs/client accounts and maintaining the internal project database
  • Preparing cost updates for client projects
  • Assisting with general finance administration and reporting
  • Performing routine calculations and producing analyses as requested
  • Collaborating with the wider team to maintain high-quality reporting

About You
We’re looking for someone who is:
  • Detail-oriented with strong organisational skills
  • A natural problem solver with a proactive attitude
  • Comfortable applying accounting skills in a practical setting
  • Keen to learn and grow within a dynamic business
Essential/Desirable Skills & Experience:
  • Ideally part-qualified accountant
  • Knowledge of financial controls, policies, and procedures
  • Experience with Sage (beneficial but not essential)
  • Strong IT skills, ideally including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent time management and ability to prioritise a changing workload
  • A true team player with strong relationship-building skills
