Assistant Accountant £35k

Permanent | Belfast / Hybrid / Remote (NI)
Your New Company
You’ll be joining a well‑established professional services organisation with a multi‑entity structure and a busy, collaborative finance function. The business operates in a fast‑paced environment and places strong value on accuracy, process improvement and developing its finance team. This is an excellent opportunity to build long‑term career progression within a stable organisation.
Your New Role
As an Assistant Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting the finance function through end‑to‑end accounts payable processing while also assisting with core accounting activities. This position is designed to relieve pressure on senior finance resources and provides exposure across transactional and month‑end processes.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Processing high‑volume supplier invoices across multiple entities
  • Performing supplier statement reconciliations and resolving queries
  • Preparing and executing regular supplier payment runs
  • Managing employee expenses and related postings
  • Assisting with journals, accruals and month‑end close activities
  • Maintaining accurate records within the finance system and Excel
  • Liaising with suppliers, internal finance colleagues and operational managers
This role reports to senior members of the finance team and offers variety alongside structured development.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
To be successful, you’ll ideally bring:
  • Proven experience in Assistant Accountant role
  • Exposure to multi‑entity or service‑based environments
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with finance systems (ERP experience desirable)
  • AAT qualification or active study, or equivalent hands‑on experience
  • A methodical, organised approach with high attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills when dealing with suppliers and internal stakeholders
  • The ability to manage deadlines in a fast‑moving finance function
Candidates studying towards ACCA or CIMA will be well supported but this is not essential.
What You’ll Get in Return
In return for your commitment, you will receive:
  • A competitive salary of up to £35,000, depending on experience
  • A permanent, full‑time role with long‑term career prospects
  • Hybrid or remote working within Northern Ireland (Belfast preferred)
  • On‑the‑job training and tailored development support
  • Clear progression towards Senior Accounts Payable or Assistant Accountant roles
This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to develop within finance while gaining exposure beyond pure transactional processing.
