ARB Registered Architect. Major central government department. Hybrid working. Long-term contract

Your new company

Hays are working exclusively with a highly regarded government department to recruit an ARB Registered Architect to join their established in-house design team. This is a rare opportunity to work on meaningful UK and international projects within a professional environment.

Important

This position is subject to UK Government SC clearance. Candidates without current clearance can apply as clearance will be initiated at offer stage. However, we can only accept applications from British passport holders (or dual nationals), due to clearance requirements.

This is a long-term interim contract, with an anticipated duration of 24 months (and potential for extension). The role will be based in Central London, with 2 days per week working from home.

The role

You will deliver architectural services across new build and refurbishment projects (circa £250k–£15m), leading and coordinating multidisciplinary design teams from concept through to handover. Projects span workplace, residential and light industrial sectors, with a strong focus on inclusive, sustainable and safe design.
The role offers exposure to senior stakeholders, and may involve travel across London alongside occasional international travel. You will also act as CDM Principal Designer and Building Regulations / BSA Principal Designer where required.

Strong experience across RIBA Stages 0–7, particularly Stages 2–4
Proven ability to lead or contribute to projects from concept to technical delivery
Advanced Revit proficiency (model setup, families, coordinated outputs)
Experience producing specifications (NBS) and high-quality reports (InDesign)
Solid knowledge of UK Planning, Building Regulations and H&S legislation
