Accounts Assistant, Shrewsbury - 12 Month Contract

Known for their strong values, supportive culture and long‑standing staff retention, this business is now seeking an experienced Accounts Assistant to join their established finance team on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract covering maternity leave.

Your new role

As Accounts Assistant, you will play an important role within a well‑structured finance team, supporting the Finance Manager and wider department with day‑to‑day transactional duties. Your responsibilities will include:

Purchase Ledger
  • Processing high volumes of supplier invoices accurately and efficiently
  • Matching, batching and coding invoices in line with company processes
  • Reconciling supplier statements and ensuring any discrepancies are resolved promptly
  • Managing supplier queries professionally and building strong relationships with external partners
  • Assisting with weekly and monthly payment runs to ensure timely settlement of accounts
Bank Reconciliation
  • Performing daily and monthly bank reconciliations across multiple accounts
  • Investigating and resolving reconciling items to maintain accurate financial records
Month-End Support
  • Assisting the team with month-end closing activities
  • Posting journals and preparing supporting documentation
  • Helping with reporting tasks as required to ensure deadlines are met
This is a varied and hands-on role that would suit someone who enjoys working in a busy and supportive finance function.

What you'll need to succeed

We are looking for a confident and experienced Accounts Assistant who can hit the ground running. You will have:
  • Previous experience in a similar finance or accounts support role
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in all work
  • Good IT proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships
  • A proactive approach, willingness to learn and the ability to work well as part of a team
