Accounts Assistant 6-month contract based in Ayrshire

Your new company

A long‑established, family‑owned business operating across Scotland is looking to recruit an Accounts Assistant to join its busy finance team on a 6‑month contract. This position is based in Ayrshire and is fully office‑based, providing consistent access to the wider finance team and hands‑on support as you develop your skills. Standard working hours are 09:00–17:00 Monday to Thursday and 09:00–16:00 on Fridays, offering a structured working pattern.

Your new role

As the Accounts Assistant, you will support the wider finance team with daily transactional duties, month‑end processes and maintaining accurate financial records. This role is ideal for someone with existing practical accounting experience who is keen to build on their knowledge within a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Completing daily bank reconciliations to ensure all financial transactions are captured accurately
  • Reviewing and reconciling company credit card spend to maintain correct records
  • Providing month‑end support to management accountants during close activities
  • Preparing and posting journals, including accruals and prepayment adjustments
  • Reconciling balance sheet accounts to maintain accuracy and compliance
  • Contributing to cost reporting and analysis to support financial insight
  • Ensuring financial data is recorded correctly and supporting the integrity of the general ledger
  • Undertaking a variety of additional finance tasks.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Previous exposure to a finance or accounts environment, demonstrating a basic understanding of accounting processes
  • Strong numerical ability with confidence in analysing financial information
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate work
  • Comfortable working with Excel and finance systems, with training available where needed
  • Organised and proactive approach, with a willingness to develop new skills
  • Collaborative team mindset and the ability to manage workload to meet deadlines.
