Accountant – Devon-based council
Location: Devon
Working Arrangements: 1 day per week in the office
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: £40,777 - £45,091 per annum

This is a fantastic opportunity to influence high-profile projects, contribute to long-term financial planning, and support transformative change across Devon.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Producing and presenting clear, accurate financial reports (revenue, capital, reserves) to Committees and senior leaders
  • Supporting the production of our annual statement of accounts in line with statutory requirements
  • Providing expert financial advice and training to colleagues and service managers
  • Helping the Council manage financial risk and optimise resource use
  • Leading a small team, overseeing workload planning and development
  • Identifying financial issues and opportunities early and supporting action
  • Contributing to smarter financial systems and ways of working

What We’re Looking For
  • Qualified or part-qualified accountant (or equivalent), or fully qualified AAT with strong local government finance experience
  • Solid understanding of local government finance, including statutory accounting and budget management
  • Experience in planning and managing your own work and leading a team
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive, problem-solving mindset
  • VAT experience is desirable
