Teaching Assistant – Specialist SEMH School

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with social, emotional and mental health needs? We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary school in Skelmersdale that supports pupils aged 11–16 with SEMH challenges. About the Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will:
  • Support pupils with SEMH needs in both classroom and small group settings.
  • Build trusting relationships that promote emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to deliver tailored learning and wellbeing support.
  • Help create a safe, structured and engaging learning environment.
  • Be a key part of a team committed to trauma-informed practice and restorative approaches.


About You
We’re looking for someone who:
  • Has experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs (or a strong interest in doing so).
  • Is calm, patient, and empathetic, with excellent communication skills.
  • Can work flexibly and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant, Youth Work, Psychology) are desirable but not essential. Full training and ongoing professional development will be provided.
