Hays is proud to be partnering with a respected public sector organisation to recruit a Senior Claims Handler. This is a key opportunity to join a growing and evolving team in a pivotal role that blends hands-on claims management with leadership responsibilities and strategic support for the organisation’s insurance programme. As Senior Claims Handler, you will manage a personal caseload of complex claims—primarily personal injury and third-party property claims under Public and Employers Liability. In addition, you will play a vital role in supporting the Insurance Manager with the administration, renewal, and ongoing development of the insurance programme, while also deputising when required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Handle a personal caseload of liability claims, including those received via the Claims Portal and traditional channels.
  • Monitor and control claim-related costs and ensure compliance with civil procedures and relevant legislation
  • Provide expert guidance to team members on liability and defence decisions
  • Assist with the procurement, renewal, and day-to-day administration of the

Insurance Programme.
  • Respond to insurance queries from directorates and liaise with insurers and brokers.
  • Maintain and update the electronic claims handling system.
  • Act as the first point of contact for legal representatives and internal stakeholders.
  • Stay up to date with legal and procedural developments in insurance and claims handling.

About You
We’re looking for someone with:
  • Proven experience in handling public and employer liability claims.
  • Experience of working in a public sector environment
  • Strong knowledge of civil procedures and insurance legislation.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Confidence in working with legal professionals and attending court.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a seasoned Insurance professional to make a real impact in a high-profile public sector organisation. If you are ready to take on your next role, please send your updated CV.
