Your new company
Hays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a Northwich-based SEND school that supports pupils between the ages of 4–11 as they are looking to appoint a motivated and experienced teaching assistant to a 1:1 contract. This is a full-time, long-term position within an extremely welcoming and supportive SEND school. You will be supporting a male pupil in a year 4 class that has a dual diagnosis of ASD and behavioural needs.
Your new role
As a teaching assistant within this school, you will be supporting a year 4 pupil with ASD and behavioural needs on a 1:1 basis. You will be this pupils' main point of contact throughout the school day, meeting them at the school gates and walking them back to their grown-up at the end of the day. The pupil you will be supporting does present complex behavioural needs and has previously lashed out, not as a personal attack but as a cry out for help. To support them with this, you will build a strong constructive relationship and implement an array of positive behaviour strategies. The school have found that he responds well to brain breaks and movement breaks, and you will be given the freedom to implement more new strategies that you feel he responds to. As you will be supporting a pupil with ASD you will be required to implement new structures into his routine gradually to decrease unrest and disruption as to ensure that he reaches his full academic potential.
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as a minimum of 40 days referenceable classroom experience within the last 2 years, and:
- Experience supporting SEN. ASD and behavioural needs is advantageous
- Be able to commit to a long-term full-time contract (32.5 hours per week)
- An NVQ Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning is advantageous but not essential
