Hays are currently working with a school in Rugby who are seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2025 on a permanent basis to support within their Year 1 class. The hours will be 27.5 hours per week and the role will be supporting a pupil on a 1-1 basis.
Your new role
Your new role will be supporting a Year 1 pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and epilepsy in a primary school setting. This pupil requires specialised support outside the classroom to engage with learning in a way that suits their individual needs. The role requires someone who is firm but fair, able to create a structured yet nurturing environment, and experienced at working with children who need alternative learning approaches. You will play a vital role in ensuring their emotional, academic, and social development is supported every step of the way.
What you'll need to succeed
- Provide one-on-one support tailored to the pupil’s needs, ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment.
- Use a firm but fair approach to encourage participation and positive behaviour.
- Assist in managing the pupil’s medical needs, including epilepsy awareness and response strategies.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals to support the pupil’s learning and development.
- Adapt learning activities to suit the pupil’s sensory and communication needs.
