The London Borough of Merton was formed in 1965 when Mitcham, Morden, Merton and Wimbledon were merged. One of our key historical figures, Admiral Lord Nelson, moved into Merton Place House, off Merton High Street, and remained there until his death at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805.

William Morris, the founder of the Arts & Craft Movement, also had a factory at Merton Abbey. The All England Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club, the home of the world-famous Wimbledon Tennis Championships, was also founded in the area in 1877.

Five new town centres have now emerged - Colliers Wood, Mitcham, Morden, Raynes Park and Wimbledon - each having their own commercial and shopping centres. Within the vibrant community of Merton you’ll find no shortage of theatres, cinemas, greyhound racing, football and places to eat, drink and be merry.

So, if you’re looking for social worker jobs and social care jobs, with excellent pay and benefits, in a charming residential community close to the attractions and delights of London, Merton could be right up your street.
