Hays IT comments on cyber security skill shortages and graduate employment rates

08 August 2014

Lee Chant, Managing Director at Hays Information Technology, comments on cyber security skill shortages and graduate employment rates:

“The concerns expressed by the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium over the employability of computer science graduates highlight the challenges facing IT employers in managing growing skill shortages.

Cyber-security skills are in high demand and salaries are rising, but if the computer science graduates best-placed to fill these roles are not equipped with the skills employers need, both the technical and ‘soft’ skills, then greater collaboration between education and industry is needed. Given the security risks posed by the growth of mobile and cloud technology, the demand for these skills will only increase, so building relationships between education and employers is crucial to provide the experts who can help organisations manage these risks. Integrating degrees with work placement years may offer graduates real business experience in applying their trade in a commercial context and help to start to bridge this skills gap.”
