New research from Hays, the leading recruiting expert, has revealed that half of professionals in the North East don’t think there is scope for progression in their current role. Furthermore, employers should take note that professionals in the North East are ambitious as 29% cite future career opportunities as the reason for leaving their current role, above salary and benefits (26%).

The desire for future career opportunities and rewarding work cited by over a quarter (29%) of employees, shows that with 60% of employees planning to move jobs in the next 12 months, employers should consider how they make sure their staff know about the career opportunities available to them.
Pam Lindsay-Dunn, Regional Managing Director at Hays, said: “With the increasing competition for experienced and skilled professionals, it has never been more important for organisations to consider what employees want to both attract and keep their staff.
“For employers in Middlesbrough, offering salary increases is not enough to satisfy the needs of some staff. Investing in the learning and development of teams and making career prospects clear should be a priority for businesses over the next 12 months. Employers should also promote the variety of work they have to offer and consider supporting professional training to attract skilled the individuals looking to move.”
