Hays comments on doctor revalidation

19th October 2012

Simon Hudson, Director at Hays, comments on the announcement that doctors will have to prove they are fit to practice every year, with comprehensive checks every five years, in what is being hailed as the biggest shake up in medical regulation for more than 150 years.
“Reassessing doctors’ competency to practice should be part and parcel of every employer’s duties. When doctors are recruited extensive checks are undertaken and we welcome that this is now to be maintained on a regular and formal basis. It is important that the new process is proportionate and doesn’t add unnecessarily to bureaucracy, but we welcome a system that will give patients and the public confidence in the skills of the professionals treating them and that that they will be receiving the best care.”
