Leeds recruiters beat the moon for charity

Staff from Hays in Leeds, the leading recruiting expert in qualified, professional and skilled people, took part in ‘Beat the Moon', a physically tough challenge which raised money for Hays' charity partner Action for Children. The gruelling challenge involved cycling a total of nine miles, followed by a nine-mile trek to the summit of Scafell Pike and a canoeing stint on Wast Water before finally ending with a one mile run. To top it off they had to complete the whole course before the moon rose. The challenge took place on the 22nd May 2010 and the Hays team have so far raised a whopping £50,000 for the charity.

Action for Children is one of the UK's largest children's charities working with over 156,000 children, young people and their families at around 420 projects across the UK. Action for Children is committed to transforming the lives of the most vulnerable children and young people and currently runs three projects in Leeds, including a residential service for looked after children with mild learning difficulties and a family centre in Harehills.

Tim Cook, Managing Director at Hays UK and Ireland, says: "My congratulations go out to everyone who took part in this challenge. This event alone has already raised over £50,000 towards this year's target for our chosen charity, Action for Children. We are particularly pleased that so many of our consultants and clients wanted to get involved in such a tough event which was both mentally and physically demanding."

Joseph Howes, Corporate Fundraising Manager at Action for Children, said: "The commitment of Hays staff taking on this physically tough challenge has been really impressive. Not only did they climb Scafell Pike but also cycled, canoed and ran - all before the moon came up - to raise a phenomenal amount of money for Action for Children. The valuable funds will help Action for Children continue working to break cycles of neglect. We aim to raise £17 million over the next three years to tackle the growing problem of neglect in the UK, which studies show affects up to 10% of children - or nearly 1.5 million children."
