Legal Services Lincolnshire (The Lawyer - article) was created by combining six separate councils’ legal teams – Lincolnshire County Council, Boston Borough Council, and the district councils of East Lindsey, North Kesteven, South Holland and West Lindsey. The aim was to turn a public sector legal function from a cost into a revenue raiser, while offering superior salaries and better career paths for lawyers. After a review potential skill shortages were identified in four areas: Property, Commercial, Highways and General Local Authority.
Historically the council had experienced difficulties with recruiting staff so felt professional expertise was required. They didn’t want to specify an exact location for the roles as where the candidates would be placed would be dependant on the response to the campaign.
As Legal Services Lincolnshire were seeking to promote multiple vacancies we recommended our campaign site solution as it gave a much broader platform to present the organisation’s benefits. The campaign site allowed to expand considerably on the job type, person specification and sell the benefits of the job and the organisation in much greater detail.
To attract candidates from outside of the county a sub page was created giving an overview on Lincolnshire, it’s potential, diversity and healthy environment.
To complement and drive traffic to the campaign site we recommended a combination of online and offline advertising. The roles were advertised online on hays.com, four external legal specific job boards and Roll On Friday, a lawyer specific networking website. We also ran a half page advert in the Law Society Gazette.
Additional bespoke email’s, postcard’s and mav-cast were implemented as part of the complete package.
Hays Legal acted as the response point for the campaign. We received over 100 responses. Each candidate was initially telephone interviewed by us and candidates that had the relevant experience were met for a face-to-face interview. We short-listed and presented nine candidates to Lincolnshire Shared Services for interview. Following those interviews all four positions were successfully filled.
