Assistant Principal opportunity in Shrewsbury

Severndale Specialist Academy

Dear candidate

I am pleased to offer the opportunity for you to join Severndale’s senior leadership team and to be part of our vibrant, multifaceted team, made up of 4 assistant principals, business manager and myself, principal, of the largest special school in England. As the only special school in Shropshire, our 405 pupils enjoy their engaging curriculum, rich with specialist resources and outstanding teaching, that enables them to fully achieve.

As our last Ofsted report identified, ‘Senior leaders have high expectations of themselves, staff and pupils and there is a shared ethos based around the school vision of ‘everyone valued, everyone included, everyone learning’. This is an inclusive and aspirational school in which leaders help pupils and staff to realise their potential.’ Since December 2016, we have worked enthusiastically to further develop our 30+ inclusive partnerships with our local mainstream schools, nurseries and colleges, raising the profile of SEND as positive contributors in the community, whilst simultaneously helping to shape a generation of future leaders who will develop a future which is better and more inclusive.

Our clear vision is at the core of everything we do which accounts for our outstanding achievements in the DofE award, food hygiene certificate and first aid, amongst other qualifications and accreditation’s, including the opportunity to achieve GCSE’s and BTEC’s at all 3 of our modern, well equipped sites. This includes our satellite provisions; a 30 place centre in a mainstream secondary school, a unique vocational centre built on site an FE college, as well as our main site at Monkmoor campus, where pupils with the full spectrum of ability and age range are challenged to maximise their potential.

You will be joining a very large dedicated team of 275 staff, and leading on whole school responsibilities in line with individual strengths and interests. We welcome applications from colleagues from both a mainstream or SEND background and we are confident that our systems processes and structures will support your leadership development and motivate you to build on our strengths.

As an assistant principal at Severndale, you will not be expected to work to timetable, instead, you will be committing your time, in and beyond, the school working day to bringing our school improvement plan to life through a collaborative and reflective approach to people management and strategic leadership. This makes this opportunity an exciting prospect for anyone who is on a leadership journey into any setting in the future.
