The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust provides acute district general hospital services to residents in the west of Berkshire, and cancer, ophthalmology and renal services to the whole of Berkshire as well as some tertiary services.
The Trust is developing a ‘hub and spoke’ model where the Trust’s main site in Reading acts as a hub offering support to satellite sites which enable the Trust to take care closer to the communities it serves. At present the Trust operates from three key sites beyond Reading and offers out-patient appointments at a further three sites.
The Trust employs over 4,500 staff, treated 93,676 inpatients or day cases and 433,234 outpatients during 2008/09 and has a turnover of nearly £270 million.
The Trust has researched what its local communities wanted from it and set out a clear strategic directions that reflects the response from the public, clinical possibilities and our drive to get closer to the communities we serve.
The Board’s corporate vision – to be the first choice provider of specialist services in our community, is supported by five strategic objectives:
These objectives have set the direction of travel for the Trust and its strategy and our progress and performance as a Trust is measured against these objectives.
The objectives encompass all aspects of our work from driving up standards of clinical care, developing our workforce, taking care closer to home and a commitment to investment in our services and facilities.
