Nottinghamshire Police

About Us

Nottinghamshire Police plays an important role in fighting crime, protecting people and promoting law and order in Nottinghamshire. We do this 24 hours a day, everyday.

We police an area of more than 800 square miles and serve a diverse population of more than one million people living in Nottinghamshire’s towns and villages and the cosmopolitan city and conurbation of Nottingham, the regional capital of the East Midlands.

Our business is to help make Nottinghamshire a safer, better place to live, work and visit, and we do this in partnership with other organisations and local communities across the county.

Our Organisation

Nottinghamshire Police is made up of around 2,500 uniformed and plain clothes police officers, 1,500 police staff, 110 police community support officers (PCSOs) and almost 500 special constables and other volunteers.

Statistics show our officers are among the most industrious in the country. Each day we receive around 2,400 calls from the public and we deal with around 140,000 crimes a year – that’s more offences per officer than any other police force in England and Wales. We also have one of the highest arrest rates per officer in the country.

Our officers perform the full range of duties expected of a modern police force. In the morning they might be responding to a 999 call, in the afternoon they might be meeting a class of schoolchildren or a community group to talk about police work or crime prevention. And that’s before the night shift goes on duty.

Our police staff provide support for front-line policing operations and other areas of our business. Like every large organisation or business, we employ specialists to help manage our finances, IT systems, human resources, buildings and other corporate services.
