Improving Working Lives (IWL) is a national initiative for NHS employers. All NHS organisations have been assessed against performance targets to achieve the IWL Practice and Practice Plus standards. IWL is aimed at creating initiatives and policies that support you to achieve a home and working life balance by creating a managed flexible working environment and promoting employee welfare and development.

The Trust is committed to IWL/Model Employer and we have a dedicated IWL team (within the Human Resources Directorate) who champion this work.

Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Trust have the Health People Healthy Business Gold Award. We are ‘Positive about Disabled People’, and are working towards the Regional Better Health at Work Award. In 2006 the Trust signed up to the MINDFULL EMPLOYER charter, for employers who are positive about Mental Health.
