Welcome to the Hayesfield Girls' School Careers site

Erica Draisey, HeadteacherI hope this website gives you some idea of the work we are doing here at Hayesfield and the wonderful opportunities we have.

Hayesfield Girls’ School is a successful school with 1,200 students, situated in three buildings close to the centre of the City of Bath, a World Heritage site.  The Lower School currently contains 550 girls in Years 7, 8 and 9.  The Upper School building houses Years 10 and 11 and there is a mixed Sixth Form of some 220 in a separate Victorian villa.  Hayesfield was graded ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in February 2009.

Hayesfield is now in the third phase of Technology College status.  All teaching rooms have broadband internet access and digital projectors. As a High Performing Specialist School we have recently been invited to take up a second specialism.  We are also a host school for the National Leadership programme.

We have an excellent reputation for Music, Art and Drama and there is a very wide range of sporting and extra-curricular activities.  Foreign language exchanges and cultural visits to other countries are regularly undertaken.  There is a strong Home and School Association (PTA) which brings together staff, parents and friends in a variety of educational, recreational, cultural and fundraising activities.

We are good employers: we have been recognised with The Charter Mark for the quality of our communication, inside and outside the school, and we have held IIP status for some years.  We are committed to the development of staff and began to conduct yearly reviews long before performance management appeared on the scene.

The school intake almost exactly mirrors the national distribution of the population.  The prevailing ethos is reflected in our motto: ‘Achieving Ambitions’.  All teachers are tutors within teams led by Heads of Year.  We pride ourselves on very effective pastoral systems and behaviour is good throughout the school.  Academic organisation is in nine faculties, linked to members of the Senior Leadership Team.

The Senior Leadership Team consists of the Headteacher, one Deputy Headteacher and six Assistant Headteachers with specific whole school responsibilities.

All the essential indicators of continued future success are currently in place: we are popular with parents and examination results are excellent.  We are very pleased that the current review of Secondary Education undertaken by Bath and North East Somerset Council has identified Hayesfield as the girls’ school in Bath.  Hayesfield became a Foundation School from September 2003, and our new £10 million Sports and Arts facilities will be completed in 2011.

A further development has been the establishment of Bath Education Trust, working in partnership with Beechen Cliff Boys’ School, the University of Bath, City of Bath College and an international engineering firm, Rotork.  The opportunities this presents are many, particularly for languages – work experience, working with the University departments and International Baccalaureate developments.  The School introduced the International Baccalaureate from September 2009 and there are Diploma developments including ICT and Society Health and Development.

If you would like to come and see us in operation at any time or come and discuss potential opportunities we may have please contact Rhys Harris at Hays Education on 0117 9279369.

Thank you
