The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) works for UK interests in a safe, just and prosperous world. This is achieved with 16,000 staff based in the UK and an overseas network of over 200 diplomatic offices. The FCO recently adopted a new strategic framework that provides greater clarity on the role of the FCO and a more strategic set of priorities.
To meet the challenges relating to “Modernising Government,” the FCO has embarked on a major change programme including the outsourcing of FM service, procurement optimisation and the introduction of Shared Services Centres. Staff, customers and suppliers will benefit from simplified, standardised and streamlined services. The delivery of the FCO’s strategic priorities will be enhanced through better management information, and a streamlined and more agile network.
A new centralised FM Client Unit has been setup to manage the delivery of FM services across the FCO (UK and Overseas) and a Regional FM contract is currently being procured to cover the UK and North West Europe part of the estate. The aim is to establish long-term service relationships with regional FM Service Providers to deliver improved value for money and service improvement. In particular the FCO is seeking to move from a ‘management intensive’ to a ‘performance and information led’ approach to facilities management.
