About Us
CHRISTIAN ACTION HOUSING ASSOCIATION (CAHA), founded in 1966, is a community based association working in the boroughs of Enfield, Barnet, Haringey and Waltham Forest. It is a highly innovative and successful housing association investing in high quality housing, support and services that are affordable or accessible to those in housing need.
Regardless of its name which reflects social concern, CAHA employs a diverse range of staff and affiliation to Christianity or indeed to any type of religion is not a condition of employment. What is a pre-requisite though is enthusiasm and flexibility, and commitment to excellent customer care and continuous improvement.
If you have the skills, attitude and experience we are looking for, we would be delighted to hear from you and can promise you a rewarding as well as challenging position within our successful organisation.
Our Achievements
- We own or manage 1300 dwellings that provide a range of general needs housing as well as supported housing.
- Provision of housing with additional support and housing for older people is and remains an important part of our activities. It is a dynamic and growing service which is ready to develop further to ensure that it continues to provide a high quality service to vulnerable older people.
- In 2007 The Audit Commission scored our services as Good (two stars) with Promising Prospects for Improvement and we intend to continue working hard at providing excellent services. An excellent result for an association of our size.
- We procure our Development Programme as part of an innovative working relationship between a number of developing Associations called ‘North River Alliance’. Through this consortium we have maintained ‘preferred partner’ status with the Homes and Communities Agency which enables us to secure on-going funding through government grants.
- We continue to develop services that fall outside of our traditional housing services roles but which respond to community and neighbourhood needs. In many cases Christian Action is the only organisation that is willing to take responsibility for, and develop, these services:
- SafeWatch: provision of a out of office hours Neighbourhood Warden service for our tenants which offers a reassuring presence and help combat anti social behaviour
- Services for survivors of Domestic Violence: this includes refuge provision and floating support services across 3 north London boroughs
- Services for Young People: foyer, hostel provision and floating support services for young people at risk (homelessness, offending history, leaving care, young parents, etc)
- Enfield Temporary Accommodation Play Project (ETAPP): provides developmental play opportunities for children, combined with important help for parents (including ESOL training)
- Bounces Road Community Hall: built as part of our successful development in the Bounces Road Estate, the hall provides a high quality venue and community resource that hosts a range of local activities. It also contains office space leased to Enfield Mencap
- Vincent House: Our new community hub in Ponders End. In addition to a scheme for people with learning disabilities, this venue provides accommodation for Enfield CAB, Age Concern Enfield, Ponders End Community Development Trust and a Community Café
- Bounces Road Youth Team: this is a partnership project with a Club Night and holiday activities provided by the Oasis Trust and funded by Christian Action
- Compass: provides floating support to our general needs tenants who need help managing their lives
- Debtsmart: working with Enfield CAB to offer advice and counselling to our tenants who are experiencing financial difficulties
- Article A: a translation project that enables tenants to start small businesses offering interpretation and translation services to RSLs
