A warm welcome to Birmingham Ormiston Academy. Thank you for taking the time to read the information on our vacant position. I hope that you find the information you are looking for and that you gain a sense of the atmosphere, vision, ethos and aims of BOA.

Birmingham Ormiston Academy is an independent state-funded 14-19 academy specialising in Creative, Digital and Performing Arts. BOA is sponsored by Ormiston Trust and Birmingham City University.

The academy opened in September 2011 in a brand new landmark building located at the hub of the digital and creative industries in the West Midlands. It has superb facilities for academic, vocational and extra-curricular activities. From September 2015, BOA has had 1072 students on roll. 767 post 16 students and 305 key stage 4 students.

BOA is 100% selective based on aptitude within the specialisms and is unique in both its admissions and approach to education. The academy aims to be at the forefront of the development of the arts and creative industries. The curriculum is designed to develop the specific identified talents, gifts and potential of each student. Performance, production, creativity and excellence will be at the centre of their experiences.

Working in partnership with industry, our programmes of study are delivered by both excellent teachers and skilled professionals. Teaching is of the highest quality and students are able to apply their learning to the world of work. Encompassing a full range of vocational, traditional and enrichment courses, our students have the opportunity to individualise their learning pathways, gaining qualifications accepted by universities or career specific courses related to areas within the creative industry sector.

Together with our founding partners, Maverick TV and the BRIT School, we have numerous creative, business and industry partners. They offer high levels of support, investment, expertise and opportunities for both students and the academy.

Although located in the heart of Birmingham, BOA is a regional academy admitting students from Birmingham, and the Local Authorities of Coventry, Dudley, Solihull, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton. 10% of students are also admitted from outside the West Midlands.

Working at BOA is different…

Exciting, imaginative and visionary, the pace is fast, expectations high and the hours longer than those of a normal school. The rewards though are immense; as we work with exceptionally talented youngsters within areas of study they love, in state of the art facilities, working alongside industry and arts professionals.

To reflect the natural and flexible approach of this academy, BOA has its own pay scale and conditions of service. Salaries are individually negotiated.

There is an understanding that staff have to be flexible in their hours of work to accommodate the commitment to extra-curricular events, partnership and extended services.

We are seeking to appoint dynamic, creative, enthusiastic individuals with a proven track record in education and/or industry to help us achieve our vision for this exciting academy.

Should you decide to apply. Good Luck. I appreciate filling in forms and writing letters of application is very time consuming. All applications will be given the merit they deserve.

Many thanks and good luck with your application.

Yours faithfully,
