Ashlyns School

Welcome to Keyham Lodge School

Thank you for your interest in working at Keyham Lodge School. I thought the following information may be of interest if you are considering submitting an application.

Keyham Lodge School opened in April 1997 as a day provision for boys aged 11 – 16, all of whom have statements for emotional and behavioural difficulties. Many of the students also have additional special needs such as moderate learning difficulties, specific learning difficulties, speech and language difficulties and medical conditions e.g. ADHD.

Having opened as a 40-place school, we have now expanded to a 55-place school. From last September we also increased our age-range to accept Yr 6 students. All classes are very small with a maximum of 11 pupils. We are hoping through the BSF programme to expand still further to 126 places in a purpose built school offering state of the art facilities.

Our Mission Statement “Keyham Lodge will provide a safe, caring, educationally challenging environment where each pupil is valued and encouraged to achieve their full potential” sums up our whole ethos of nurturing, supporting and encouraging students to achieve. We have high expectations of students and all staff go that ‘extra mile’ to ensure students are happy, confident and successful, both academically and with enquiring minds and self-motivation to succeed.

To achieve our aims we recognise that teachers and support staff are absolutely crucial. We believe in developing people and offer an excellent induction and ongoing CPD package. Keyham Lodge is a National Support School which emphasises the value we place on peoples aspirations.

Managing behaviour is crucial before learning can take place. Behaviour and work is monitored every lesson and during unstructured times. A strictly enforced Behaviour Policy exists to encourage positive behaviour and, where necessary, impose sanctions for poor behaviour. This Policy is reviewed by all the staff at least annually and is constantly updated to ensure we manage our students to enable them to get the best out of the considerable learning opportunities available to them. The school was set up with the belief that a strong curriculum is vital, as is working with families to ensure the best education for their sons, this involves close liaison with parents by the class teacher and key-worker.

Although at times it can be very challenging, it is extremely rewarding knowing that you make a real difference to the lives of our students. If you would like to be part of our very supportive team we would love to hear from you and strongly encourage you to visit to see our happy, vibrant and caring school.
