Welcome
Welcome to Bower Grove School which is situated in the county town of Maidstone. We are an all aged (5 – 16 years) special school for 200 pupils who have Statements of Special Educational Needs to reflect their difficulties in the areas of learning and behaviour. Many of our pupils have associated social communication or autistic spectrum difficulties.
The school has many outstanding features (as endorsed by Ofsted) in particular its care for the pupils, strong staff teams and the curriculum. Bower Grove is a happy school and a unique ethos pervades where everyone is valued and cared for – a comment that is frequently made by parents, carers and all visitors to the school.
The school is well resourced and a recently completed building programme has provided purpose built facilities for Sports, ICT, Science, Design and Technology, Art, Music and Cookery. All classrooms are modern and well equipped. A strength of the school is its continuing professional development for all staff and we are an Education Based Training Centre for Graduate Teachers in association with Christ Church University, Canterbury.
The school’s Extended Schools Award highlights our commitment to extra curricular activities and our strong partnership with parents. The school is now seeking Specialist Status in Sports.
The school operates two mainstream satellites for ASD pupils based within local primary and secondary schools.
This post offers a great opportunity to develop your career within special education and previous experience in teaching or SEN would not be a pre-requisite as our staff development support systems are strong and many staff have been appointed through the GTP programme.
