LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT JOBS FAQs

Interpersonal and communication skills are vital for a learning and development role, as you’ll be speaking with employees to understand business needs and individuals’ learning priorities. Problem-solving skills and creativity are also important, as learning and development professionals often must think of new ways to increase employee engagement with learning programmes.

For some learning and development jobs, an undergraduate degree may not necessarily be required. Relevant experience and professional qualifications, such as a CIPD qualification, may be looked upon more favourably by hiring organisations.

A learning and development specialist’s job will be to develop an organisation’s training strategy in order to create an environment where employees can develop their skills for the benefit of themselves and the company. This may include carrying out assessments of an organisation’s current learning and development capabilities, designing new training solutions, rolling out learning programmes across the business and measuring the success of new training strategies.
