The application form gives you your chance to sell yourself. Make sure you are honest and concise about your experiences.

  • Make sure you put the right contact details on the form
  • Read the application before you start to write. This will avoid repetition later on
  • Complete all sections and look for the child protection questions. These must be filled in
  • Use the person specification and job description to guide you. If you do not have one, call and ask for one
  • Check for spelling and grammar mistakes. If you are writing your application by hand, ask somebody to proofread it before you send it
  • Include your references with contact details. The school will appreciate not having to chase you for them
  • Ask for help if you are not sure. Your Hays consultant can advise you on what is relevant
  • Stick to the facts

  • Don’t copy and paste information from CVs or other applications you have written. It looks messy and is often irrelevant
  • Don’t leave any pages blank. Either remove them or write something
