Salary guide - Northern Ireland

An overview of the PA jobs market in Northern Ireland, including up-to-date salary figures for the private and public sector.

The PA jobs market remains difficult for PAs in the country with new opportunities remaining limited. However, we have seen an increase since March 2011 in the new roles available in the private sector although that has been offset with a similar reduction in opportunities in the public sector.

Salaries
Salaries have remain steady in most areas and have slightly increased in Belfast since the turn of the year. Medical Secretaries can now expect to earn up to £18,000 and the average salary for Board Level PAs in the private sector is £24,000.

Sector focus
The financial services and legal sectors are supporting the growth of private sector PA roles in Northern Ireland as jobs become available after cost cuttings of the last 24 months. In particularly, the introduction of Allen & Overy to Belfast has generated numerous roles for highly skilled and experienced PAs. Public sector opportunities remain limited for temporary and permanent roles.

Skills in demand
The vast majority of job specifications now request individuals with strong skills and experience across; diary management, travel, accommodation and visas, screening calls and correspondence, and minute taking.

Looking ahead
The jobs market is set to continue grow slightly, if not drastically, over the next 6 months and this should stimulate demand for PAs with a proven background in driving operational success.
